Frequently Asked Questions
These checks solve the most common setup and rendering issues.
The visual is empty or says fields are missing.
Date and Value are required. Check that the Date field is a real Date or DateTime column and that Value is numeric. Text dates should be converted in Power Query or the Power BI model before binding.
Week x Hour Heatmap is not showing expected hours.
Week x Hour Heatmap requires DateTime values with a real time-of-day component. Date-only rows are ignored in that mode so timezone conversion does not create misleading hour buckets.
The Fiscal Quarter Heatmap mode is not available.
Fiscal Quarter Heatmap is a Pro mode. Verify that your AppSource subscription is assigned to your Power BI user account and that you are testing in Power BI Service after the license check has completed.
The color scale changes when I switch modes.
Auto by mode chooses the most useful domain for each mode. Annual uses the selected year, while Multi-Year uses the current date range for cross-year comparability. To lock the scale, open Color Scale and set Domain source to Manual, then enter Minimum value and Maximum value.
Threshold Rules are not visible.
Threshold Rules appear when Color Scale > Scale type is set to Threshold rules. Threshold rules are Pro-only, so Free users will not see that scale type in the dropdown.
Holidays are not highlighted.
Open Holidays & Non-working and choose either the Holiday data role or JSON list as the holiday source. If using a data role, check that the bound field contains recognizable holiday values for the rows you expect to mark.
Cross-filtering from the visual is not working.
ProCalendar Heatmap selects the underlying source rows for the clicked date or bucket. Make sure the date field comes from the same model table or related model path as the target visual. Ctrl-click adds dates to a multi-selection.
The Free plan is showing a shorter date range than my data.
The Free plan is capped to 366 visible days anchored to the latest date in the current data. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited visible date range and the additional heatmap modes.
